Ahmed Hussein, former Olympian passed away

Sad loss to Football

The Hyderabad born Hussein played in 1956 Olympics and was based in Bangalore for the most part of his life. A central defender, he captained Mohammed Sporting in Kolkotta for over a decade. I was fortunate enough to do a programme with him for AIR (radio) in 1990 ahead of the World Cup In Italy. Rest in peace, sir.

He passed away this morning in Bengaluru, another sad victim of Covid.
Hussein sir was related to Mr A R Khaleel, KSFA Life Patron and ex-President. Khaleel Sir said, ‘ He was one of the most gentle persons and a great human being and friend. Hussein refused many promotions as his wife was a Vijaya Bank officer and he did not want to leave Bangalore. Unfortunately, he lost his eldest son last December who suffered a brain haemorrhage after a fall In the bathroom. Hussein Bhai was also suffering from dementia for quite a few years.”
