A meeting of the Selection Committee of WFI was held at WFI’s Office to select the team for World Olympic Games Qualifying Tournament which will be held at Sofia (Bulgaria). The Committee has decided to enter the following wrestlers for the above event:
Free Style
74 kg. Amit Dhankar
97 kg. Satyavrat Kadian
125 kg. Sumit
In Free Style, the Committee has made replacement in 74 kg. Sandeep Mann selected for Aisan Qualifier and Asian Championship didn’t give satisfactory performance. Hence, the Committee decided to give chance to Amit Dhankar who secured 2nd position in the Selection Trial held on 16th March 2021.
Greco Roman Style
60 kg. Sachin Rana
67 kg. Aashu
77 kg. Gurpreet Singh
87 kg. Sunil
97 kg. Deepanshu
130 kg. Naveen Kumar
In Greco Roman Style, the Committee made replacements in 60 Kg. & 97 Kg. The wrestlers selected in these weight categories viz. Gyanendra & Ravi respectively gave poor performance in both competitions. Hence, the Committee gave chance to Sachin Rana & Deepanshu who secured 2nd position in the Selection Trial.
Women Wrestling
50 kg. Seema
68 kg. Nisha
76 kg. Pooja
The Committee didn’t feel it appropriate to make any replacement in these weight categories as all these wrestlers secured medals either in Qualifying Competition or Asian Championship.
